Alina is of a rare breed: an engineer and simultaneously a national level hammer thrower. Most people pick one, but that’s what made athletics so special at our Alma Mater, Stevens Institute of Technology.
Alina has both a Bachelor’s in Engineering and a Masters in Engineering in Civil Engineering. While in school, she was a 4 year conference champion in the shot put and became an All-American at the NCAA Track and Field Indoor Championships. She decided to continue to pursue the hammer and weight throws after her NCAA eligibility was up.
Alina has since qualified for USA Track and Field Nationals in both Indoor (Weight Throw) and Outdoor (Hammer Throw) Track and Field. She has competed with some of the best throwers in the world, with hopes of placing in the top 3 at the Olympic Trials and making the Olympic team in Rio.
Credentials aside, Alina is one of the most driven athletes I’ve ever met. I haven’t kept in touch with many of my teammates from college, but with her it’s easy, since she’s insisted on being an intense competitive athlete after college, when most college athletes just move on to the professional world. She is constantly tweaking her diet, training in all sorts of conditions, and finding new ways to get better. It is all of these reasons why we are happy to welcome Alina to the White Buffalo team.
